I am a professional filmmaker with extensive global experience authoring high-end film projects. My education and practice as a fine artist combined with my strong technical background and adventurous spirit grant unique effectiveness to my filmmaking.

DIRECTOR/PRODUCER  (FREELANCE) — 2020-present

  • Conceive and execute film projects from initial pitch through pre-production, production, post-production and final delivery.

  • Act (variably) as director, cinematographer, producer and editor to execute creative and technical work, manage collaborative efforts, and incorporate client and audience testing feedback.

Cinematographer / Director of Photography (FREELANCE) — 2012-present

  • Provide top level creative and technical leadership on high-end film projects; namely “blue-chip” natural history projects, streaming series (including two for Apple TV+; “Dear…” and “Tiny World”), large format theatrical documentaries, commercials and music videos.

  • Design and implement cinematic language across projects through shot selection, lensing, lighting, color, movement, etc.

  • Manage and inspire a team of camera professionals and interface with other aspects of production as needed.

CAMERA OPERATOR (FREELANCE) — 2008-present

  • Provide departmental level technical and creative leadership while operating cameras for clients across the film and television space.

  • Manage and execute creative and technical aspects of camera operation; selection and preparation of camera equipment, framing/operating shots, communication and coordination with other departments (i.e. grip, electric, art, production)

First Assistant Camera (Freelance) — 2008-2012

  • Provide technical and creative support for Directors of Photography on high-end film projects including large format feature films, narrative projects, natural history films, commercials and music videos.

  • Select, prepare and work efficiently with camera equipment in the field, supporting both cinematography goals and overall project success.

Skills and Technical Proficiencies

Consummate filmmaker;  I have broad and deep experience in a variety of roles with the ability to creatively and technically lead projects toward successful conclusions.

Extensive (54+ countries) global film production experience including remote and challenging locations including arctic, jungle, desert, conflict zone, ecologically/politically/culturally sensitive subjects. Comfortable and productive in cross-language/cross-culture work environments.

Highly technical with experience in large format cinematography (IMAX, 70mm film), VR and volumetric capture, high speed (Vision Research Phantom technician), hyper-spectral imaging (ultraviolet, infrared, FLIR, etc), plus more common technologies (Arri, Red, Sony). I also often develop new, project specific technical capabilities to serve creative needs.

Time-lapse and motion control specialist.

Aerial cinematography specialist; both helicopter based with Shotover, Cineflex or Super G remote head and small unmanned aerial systems.

Competence in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop namely), plus any project specific software as needed.

Outdoor skills including climbing, rigging, high altitude mountaineering, glacier travel, alpine-touring/cross-country skiing.
